This is not a story about a boy per say, it’s about a grown ass man, a wonderful friend and very talented person, I am not one to use hyperbole in my writing maybe during description, LOL but when it comes to Renzioni, I am allowed to.
I met Renzi as I like calling him through a mutual friend (that one is a story for decades ahead) this friend and I have this habit of meeting weekly after work to discuss politics or the general topics all over and it’s during one of these meetings that Renzi’s name came up. The friend told me that, Renzi and I would get along perfectly because of how similar in character we are, I laughed the idea off of course but after pondering about it, it became a good idea and a certain someone became excited and demanded a date with Renzi.
That day after work, I headed home, went through close to 20 outfits or so, I went to our meeting spot; The Woods, Muyenga. I got there early because I have issues with being late and people delaying me, I sat down and realized that I did not have Renzi’s number and our mutual friend had an emergency so it was not going to be easy to reach that one. I hate such situations, so I got onto facebook, sent Renzi an inbox and he replied immediately (Thank you social media).
He called me immediately after that and it turns out his salon and spa is within those very premises and we decided to just go and hung in there.
Now here is the big deal, I have a thing for fashion, I love shoes and bags but my tiny brain had not figured out Renzioni is one of Uganda’s best fashion designers, it’s when I got inside his salon that it hit me. I had seen this man’s designs in Bold Kla, a certain shop in town that sells Ugandan made apparel. I was soooooo….excited that I think I frightened his salon employees, I showed so much malo (Village excitement, I don’t know what you British and Americans call it). Before you judge me, being in his salon/ shop/ spa was like being in a candy store for me (yeah, I still love candy), there were pretty shoes, bags, bangles, jackets all in African print displayed all over the place and I was jumping from one to another like an excited puppy.
Renzi stood by watching me and laughing (occasionally checking his phone, he is addicted to that huge thing). That is the night I met a new good and wonderful friend, we spent the whole night chatting away over a glass of something I don’t remember and food, till our mutual friend came over and dropped a very drunk me home.
If you didn’t know Lawrence Renzioni Hill is a Nigerian- Ghanaian model (add Ugandan somewhere there) and fashion designer, I for one just call him a lazy entrepreneur. Renzi is a very warm always impeccably dressed person and he has this sweet habit of looking for something positive in every situation, strong willed and big headed if you try to put him down (he hates that). I am writing this in hopes that I get a free spa day at that Muyenga spa of yours Renzi (Hopefully the full package ).
Renzioni has been nominated in The Best Designer Award for the Kadanke Awards Uganda that will take place in August among, Kwesh, Stella Atal, Xenxon and many more… In his words, God is good-oo!!
For more information please visit and like his facebook page (Renzioni) and if you want to visit the salon and spa (Woods Spa) you are welcome to The Woods, Muyenga along Tank Hill Road next to the Muyenga Police Station.
