Within the coming weeks, I am going to have several guest writers; these ladies will be talking about themselves, their passions and what they do. If you have a lady in your life that is striving hard in her career going against the odds by building what she believes in, send me an email on email@example.com with their story, two pictures of their work and one of the subject. Thank you in advance 🙂
The first lady is a very good friend that I have seen grow with her business, I can attest to her perseverance and hardwork. Her food is what I always look forward to when i visit their home, I love good food and Gaby makes gourmet seem like a walk in paradise. You can get in touch her if you need someone to plan your event or any catering related needs via firstname.lastname@example.org
They get to talk about their journey, how far it has been, where they see themselves in the near future and My name is Gabriella Mayiga, the eldest of three kids. I love music, décor and food. I am very passionate about everything décor, from flowers to linens, table settings and I have lately started to love wine, I am enjoying every experience of it. Like everyone, I am ardent about everything I love.
I am also a very honest person, I dislike ‘pretentious’. However, I have learned that we are all different and we see things the way we are, not the way they are.
After working in the corporate world for about a year, I knew I couldn’t take the 10hrs a day, five days a week cycle anymore. My dad, who doubles as my hero encouraged me to do what I love. I decided to get into the Events and Catering business because it fits perfectly into everything I love.
I was apprehensive at the start because I didn’t want the pressure of running a business to take away the love I had for décor and cooking. My dad said don’t knock it before you try it. I also talked to some of my friends who further encouraged me.
My brother picked the name Gaby’s Kitchen & Events. Next was to get a location, I chose a location close to home which I could afford. Then had my company registered and Gaby’s Kitchen & Events Limited was born!!
My first gig was given to me by one of my friends. It was breakfast and lunch for 15 people and I thought to myself…that’s easy. However, at that point I had nothing, no appliances, no kitchen ware but just a few days for preparation. I quickly listed everything I required, and with some savings and help from family, everything was set in motion. My sister helped with staff and the gig was a great success.
It delights me a lot to give my clients a comprehensive service, from food to décor and the whole events management. Lately, I am thinking of getting into Kitchen ware and Interior design. But being an entrepreneur has taught me to be patient. Like the Chinese say “A journey of a thousand miles begins with one step”. I am confident that I will grow my business several leaps and bounds. I believe that if I am the best at what I do, success will follow me. I do believe in miracles too, I am always ready to seize my biggest break.
Owning a business is not the easiest of tasks. There are so many of us in the same line of business, and people are ask me what makes me different, I always say my it’s passion, my willingness to learn, resilience and that I aim to please!!
The business made two years on 11 August 2016 and we are currently in the process of moving to our next location. I have been fortunate to have support from my family and my partner, it makes life a lot easier.
